23. Joseph Brennan swn. "I am the Inspector of Police, i/c
Northern Division, N.T., with headquarters at Taipo. I live at
Autau Police Station. I was in my quarters at Au Tau about
5.45 p.m. on July 21st last when the officer in Charge (Autau)
made a report to me as the result of a telephone message he had
received from Taipo. On my instructions Sergt. Basting paraded
all his men under arms, I picked out one I.P.8. and three
1.P.Cs. We were just about started when I was recalled to the
Charge Room where I found the A.S.., N.T. (Mr. Sparrow) and
Sergt. Madgwick. A Verey pistol, torches and first aid
appliances were then got ready. A considerable amount of
telephoning had to be done. We finally started for Lok Ma Chau,
a party of 8, in motor vehicles, about 6.30 p.m., and reached
the bottom of Lok Ma Chau Station path about 6.45 p.m."

Station. I then mounted the low hill to the west of the path.
From the top I turned my glasses on the station. i could see no
movement. The A.S.P., H.T., joined me. Some man were posted
there and I returned to the boundary road. 1 then went to the
